TEA - TEST OF ENGLISH FOR AVIATION

With an advance of two weeks you can subscribe to the TEA, Test of English for Aviation necessary for all pilots who want to fly to a foreign country and / or lead TPP flights.

Why do you have to take this certificate?

As known, ICAO has established that by March 5 2011, pilots and air traffic controllers must demonstrate knowledge of the language used in aviation communications, in accordance with methods acceptable to the Authority, under the general description in the ICAO Annex 1 Appendix 1.

Required knowledge must be at least at operational level (Level 4) rating scales. The deadline was initially set for March 5 2008, it was postponed to March 5, 2011.

It seems now that, over 10,650 pilots who need the English level, only about 1,560 have sustained the test(it also includes student pilots enrolled in modular CPL or integrated  and ATPL).

It is thus assumed that in the next 12 months, the number of candidates who will perform the test will be about 9,000 pilots.

To avoid the concentration of testing in early 2011, ENAC had chosen to tie the end of the Level 4 certificate in accordance with the transitional provisions, on the expiry of the type or class rating, however, prior to March 5, 2011 to distribute over time the conduct of the test by pilots.

Con un anticipo di due settimane è possibile iscriversi al TEA, il Test of English for Aviation necessario per tutti i piloti che vogliono uscire dal confine italiano e/o effettuare voli tipo TPP.

Perchè svolgere questo esame?

Come; noto, l'ICAO ha stabilito che entro il 5 Marzo 2011 i piloti e i controllori del traffico aereo devono dimostrare la conoscenza della lingua usata nelle comunicazioni aeronautiche, secondo metodi ritenuti accettabili dalla Autorità in base alla descrizione generale di cui all'ICAO Annex 1 Appendix 1.

La conoscenza richiesta deve essere almeno al livello Operativo (Level 4) del rating scale. Il termine, inizialmente fissato al 5 Marzo 2008, è stato infatti posticipato al 5 Marzo 2011, ritenendosi fino a tale data accettabili i metodi di verifica in uso prima dell'introduzione dei nuovi requisiti.


ENAC ha implementato, per i piloti titolari di fonia in lingua inglese, un test di conoscenza di lingua inglese (TEA Test preparato da Mayflower College), selezionato in base ad una indagine di mercato e giudicato conforme ai requisiti richiesti da ICAO e sviluppati nella JAR FCL 1 e 2.

Risulta ad oggi che, su 10.650 piloti in possesso di fonia in lingua inglese, solo 1.560 circa hanno sostenuto il test (e fra gli esaminati rientrano anche allievi piloti iscritti a corsi modulari o integrati CPL e ATPL).

Si presume quindi che, nei prossimi 12 mesi, il numero di candidati che dovranno effettuare il test sarà di circa 9.000 piloti.

Per evitare la concentrazione dei Test nei primi mesi del 2011, ENAC aveva scelto di legare la scadenza del Livello 4 certificato in base alle disposizioni transitorie, alla scadenza del type o class rating, comunque antecedente al 5 Marzo 2011 in modo da distribuire nel tempo l'effettuazione del test da parte dei piloti.
